Composing

The first compositions by Laurent Beeckmans were made for piano duet : the Petite Suite and the Danses dans le Mode de Si. Some piano solo pieces followed, such as the Sonatine, the Sonate Classique, the Piano Sonata and the Variations on the name of GRIEG.

The Suite en Sol for organ was premiered in 2002 in Germany, and the Concerto for piano and orchestra in B minor, from fragments of an unfinished piano concerto by Edvard Grieg received its first performance in London in 2003 and was further performed in Belgium and Germany (Festival Nordische Musik in 2007).

A series of works of a more mathematical nature followed, such as One, Two, Four, Six and Twelve, written respectively for the number of performers the title suggests, as well as the more complex and abstract Fibonacci Loops, written for an undetermined set of instruments.

In 2003, The Rainbow for choir a cappella and the oratorio Dona Nobis Pacem for choir and wind ensemble were nominated in international competitions for composers.

The collaboration with the thereminist Grégoire Blanc lead to the composition of two new works involving this instrument : Waves (2017) that has been selected on the LP compilation of the New York Theremin Society celebrating the centenary of the instrument, and Hymne, commissioned for the Festival d'Uzerche in 2018.
